In this ceramic sculpture, the strength and majesty of a Saint Bernard dog are combined with the unexpected liveliness of colorful marbles flowing from its belly. The contrast between the heavy, solid body of the dog and the light, playful marbles symbolizes the duality of life: the seriousness of our responsibilities and the freedom to view the world with a childlike wonder. The marbles, which might evoke thoughts of bubble gum, bring color and cheer, much like the everyday moments of playfulness that often slip by unnoticed in the rush of daily life. This work invites us to not always take things so seriously, but to occasionally embrace life with a smile and a touch of absurdity. For in the playfulness of a child lies the purity of the moment, and that is often more beautiful than we realize.
